At the beginning of July, together with 2 lab members, I went fishing to the tip of the peninsula (south of Nagoya) - the one with the Centrair airport on it.
Getting ready for fishing in front of the school:
Found a bird's nest near the kombini we stopped at:
We took a car there so it was quite exciting for me - my first car ride in Japan:
Underground highway - I always biked on top of it... never before seen the bottom:
Highway on top - can only see tops of buildings:
Leaving the city:
Highways in Japan look similar to North America... only on the other side:
Bamboo forests:
Palm trees:
A Japanese minivan:
Rice fields:
Finally made it to the Minamichita town:
Farmer in rice field:
You can see the ocean:
We stopped at this large home center (basically large store that has everything) to get some supplies, like seats, and a BBQ:
Nice layers or rock:
Finally arrived at a fishing dock in the town:
There were already many people fishing:
The ocean:
My first time seeing wild jellyfish:
And star fish (these ones were rather cooked):
These things seem to be all over.. protecting from waves or something.. not sure...
The fishing is slightly different but in general the same idea:
Resting:
Preparing the tiny shrimp mixture for one particular type of fish (that we didn't actually catch):
Finally a catch:
And another:
These fish are rather small...
Ready for a huge fish!
In the distance, the hills are on the Shinojima island:
So many fisherman:
Caught a starfish:
They are pretty hard:
For lunch, we left the fishing stuff at the dock and went to a local restaurant:
Large birds of prey were flying around a hill:
The restaurant was awesome - definitely the best seafood I've ever tried. These are all for one person.
Some kind of shrimp:
crab:
some sashimi:
fried shrimp:
crab leftovers:
fried salted shrimp:
Nice peace of cooked Tai:
This is how the place looked like:
Our table:
A large Tai display for an upcoming festival:
A panda:
I wouldn't have guessed but this was a fishing store where we bought the bait and other things:
Better view of the islands:
Getting a bit late:
But still fishing:
Sun is setting:
A rare catch - Tai:
We were able to see the fireworks from a festival on one of the islands:
Night fishing:
The day's catch. I managed to catch that octopus which was really funny since I thought it was a fish.
We then found a nearby beach to do a BBQ:
Fish cleaning starts:
Some local veggies:
The BBQ heating up:
BBQing the fish:
And veggies:
The food was excellent. First time I had straight from the water fish to eat like that. The octopus was delicious! Really nice time fishing!
